Germany-based Aaronia AG has announced in a statement that will install its AARTOS drone detection system at Muscat International Airport, in a deal worth US$11mn
According to the company, the government of Oman has approved Aaronia AG in partnership with R & N Khimji LLC as the approved solution for drone detection at Oman Airports.
The solution has already been demonstrated in the country and can detect drones and other devices using radio frequency with a range of up to 50 km, depending on the specifications.
The system can simultaneously detect multiple drones at different frequencies and is equipped with sophisticated, long-range cameras for further verification. Aaronia has been working with high-end RF and microwave systems for more than 15 years, with all software and hardware being developed in Germany.
Drone detection at airports has become a vital requirement in several instances, causing disruption of airport services worldwide, most notably at Heathrow and Gatwick Airports in the UK over the past month.
Oman airports have been searching for an optimal solution for some time, and the limitation of most systems using radar technology is that they interfere with existing airport systems, have a low detection rate and produce a lot of false alarms.
The company explained that Aaronia’s unique solution uses the latest AI-based RF detection and does not emit signals, so it can not interfere with other systems operating at airports. In addition, the location of the drone operator can also be detected. Aaronia’s unique situation awareness software ‘RTSA SUITE PRO’, which includes a 3D map, camera control and real-time air traffic display, will bring the airport security to a whole new level.
Procurement of the system for Muscat International Airport has been confirmed and it will be the first international airport in the world to have an operational drone detection system, the company concluded.
