Real Safety introduces solutions to reduces costs on escape route markings by 65 percent

Anti-slip solution provider Real Safety has developed a new solution, aiming to allow rig owners to reduce costs on markings by 65 per cent

With a lot of escape routes on the average oil rig and the harsh environment at sea, maintaining escape route markings has become both expensive and time-consuming.

Escape route markings from Real Safety are mounted directly on the gratings of the rig as opposed to the more traditional painted markings. According to Martin Boye, sales and procurement specialist at Real Safety, this anti-slip solution focuses on making the markings faster and easier to install.

“We have calculated the costs of painting escape routes on grates and compared this to the costs of implementing the real safe escape solution,” he said.

“We found that using our solution, rig owners can cut costs on their markings by 65 per cent over 10 years,” he added.

According to him, costs for materials are the same whether the owners choose to paint markings or implement the real safe escape solution. “If a rig owner chooses to paint escape routes three workers have to be dedicated to the task, one observer, one with an epoxy certification and an accompanying technician. Furthermore, the work area must be blocked off and you will need to establish alternate escape routes,” Boye explained.

Safe Escape from Real Safety needs one installer, thus cutting installation costs and simplifying the process.

Real Safety will be showing their solutions for the oil and gas industry at ADIPEC 2017, to be held from 13-16 November 2017, in Abu Dhabi.
