Drydocks World has received two awards at the ceremony of Lloyd’s List Middle East Awards for contributing to improving safety standards and protecting the environment

According to the organiser, Drydocks World received the award for reducing safety and environmental risks in a systematic manner to go beyond legal compliance, thus achieving sustainable excellence for Dubai and the international maritime community.

Drydocks World said that it has adopted strategies centred on resource optimisation and sustainability by balancing the areas of ‘People, Planet and Profit,’ aiming to create a safe and responsible maritime and energy future.

In 2016, the yard achieved a target of recycling 90,025 tonnes of waste, which accounts for 85 per cent of the yards total generated waste. The company also achieved a 48 per cent reduction in injuries during 2016, based on 26.5mn man-hours worked with a 3.92 injury rate frequency per million man-hours.

Commenting on the awards, Mohammad Rizal, chief operating officer at Drydocks World, said, “We intend to build on our past success in these areas going forward, and appreciate the recognition from Lloyd’s List Middle East Awards.”

“The ‘Zero Harm’ strategy and our management systems have been certified to the highest international standards, with Drydocks World receiving a five Star rating from the British Safety Council for the past 14 years and the BSC Sword of Honour on 10 occasions,” he added.
