The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has formed a committee to inspect gas supplies and applications in the emirate
This is in line with the recently announced safety inspection initiative for LPG gas systems in buildings across the emirate. The Gas Safety Committee will ensure the safety of gas supplies and applications, review safety procedures and standards for gas supply activities, installations, and related accident prevention within Abu Dhabi.
The committee will consist of 12 entities representing various sectors in Abu Dhabi. These entities include the Department of Government Support, Department of Economic Development, Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, Statistics Center, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, Integrated Transport Center, and ADNOC Distribution.
The Gas Safety Committee will handle all gas-related matters, while conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing gas activities, systems, and supplies, proposing essential requisites for gas safety standards, and technical specifications, analysing reports and performance indicators linked to gas activities and providing informed recommendations, establishing fines, penalties, enforcement mechanisms, collection procedures, and corrective measures for non-compliance.
Additionally, it will suggest actions to ensure that businesses, structures, and people in possession of gas-related licences and permits abide with regulatory frameworks controlling gas activity. The group will coordinate audit and inspection campaigns to verify adherence to gas activity regulations, advocate the establishment of thorough databases for current gas systems, and provide legislative and administrative recommendations regarding gas systems. To improve e-linking gas databases, cooperative efforts with sector-operating businesses would be performed. Additionally, it will assess the use of gas from production to consumption and recommend any required corrective measures to protect people and property.
The gas systems safety inspection campaign, which started in July, covers a wide range of enterprises, including those involved in the food industry, commerce, and housing. Within a six-month period, there are supposed to be 2,800 structures inspected. A public awareness campaign that supports this project includes educational seminars done in all of Abu Dhabi's councils and movies that explain how to use liquefied petroleum gas systems properly.
