Capital Health, the UAE-based integrated health group, has signed a partnership with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, one of the leading healthcare service providers in the US, to deliver a specialised rehabilitation hospital (SRH) in Abu Dhabi

Set to open later this year, the hospital, first of its kind in the region, is designed in response to the UAE’s Vision 2021 to achieve a world-class healthcare system and ensure that local patients no longer have to travel abroad to receive the very best treatment and care.

The opening of SRH aims to deliver an acute, sub-acute and long-term rehabilitation, and long-term care, facility with outpatient capabilities, complemented by highly specialised skills and equipment including the latest bionics and robotics, in the heart of the UAE’s capital.

The partnership with SRALab will ensure world-leading standards of treatment and care in the UAE for patients who are often recovering from the most severe, complex conditions — from traumatic brain and spinal cord injury to stroke, amputation and cancer-related impairment.

Dr. Mishal Al Kasimi, CEO of Capital Health, said, “Partnering with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is an important milestone for Capital Health as we create specialised hospitals and medical centres to serve the needs of UAE residents and medical tourists, in line with UAE Vision 2021 and Plan Abu Dhabi 2030.”

“Our ability to apply this model at Capital Health’s Specialised Rehabilitation Hospital will change the region’s healthcare landscape by transforming the approach taken to patients’ recovery from debilitating illness and injury – whether they are adults or children, and over the short and long term,” he added.

Capital Health’s two flagship facilities in Abu Dhabi are under development. The 166-bed Specialised Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH) will provide acute and long-term rehabilitation care, along with in-patient, out-patient and home care capabilities. Health Shield Medical Centre will be a multi-specialty healthcare facility located at Ministries Complex next to Khalifa Park.
