As part of its continuous efforts to increase awareness of traffic safety, reduce road accidents, and decrease human and economic loss that come as a result, the Abu Dhabi Joint Committee for Traffic Safety launched an awareness raising campaign to enhance the perception of drivers and educate them on safe driving measures and alertness during fog
This campaign is part of a series of awareness campaigns carried out by the committee, which are aimed at enhancing the security and safety of society.
The Joint Committee presided by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, whose members include the general command of the Abu Dhabi Police, the Department of Health and the Integrated Transport Centre explained that the campaign includes broadcasting warning and awareness messages through social media and media channels to enhance drivers' awareness on the necessity of adhering to preventive measures and precautions of safe driving during fog.
Dense fog is regarded as one of the factors that cause serious accidents on highways. Therefore, drivers are expected to uphold safe driving measures when fog occurs, such as: reducing speed, complying with the speed limits indicated on the electronic panels installed on the sides of the roads, maintaining a sufficient safety distance between vehicles to avoid collision accidents, and avoiding overtaking vehicles or moving from one lane to another in the event of blurry vision.
It’s also crucial to refrain from using high-beam headlights bt rather opt for low-beam headlights while driving, and making sure to use warning signs when stopping. Drivers must keep their attention on the road and make haste in leaving the middle of the road in the event of a minor accident as well as promptly parking off road and stopping the vehicle in the event of absence of proper vision.
The campaign will be carried out over the course of two months, with the purpose of educating drivers about the necessity of adherence to safe driving measures during fog and bad weather and to enhance the concept of security and safety on the roads.
