Abu Dhabi Joint Committee for Traffic Safety launches awareness campaign

The Abu Dhabi Joint Committee for Traffic Safety launched an awareness raising campaign, aiming at enhancing the security and safety on roads of the emirate and making it a safer society

The campaign’s main focus is to educate the public about the rules of the "stop" sign and the importance of complying with them to maintain the safety of road users and to avoid accidents and traffic violations.

The Joint Committee, presided by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, whose members include the general command of the Abu Dhabi Police, the Department of Health and the Integrated Transport Centre, explained that the campaign includes broadcasting awareness messages through social media, conducting media interviews, and holding educational workshops to enhance drivers' awareness regarding the necessity of completely stopping at the designated “stop” signs and at stop lines at intersections and road exits.

The campaign increases awareness of safety procedures, especially in light of the increasing number of traffic violations resulting from ignoring the “stop” sign and not complying with a complete stop. According to Abu Dhabi Police, the “stop” sign violations reached a number of 492 violations during the period from January to September 2021.

The “stop” line is a white continuous line. It is necessary to stop completely at it and at the “stop” sign before resuming driving at intersections. Drivers must also give priority to vehicles coming from the other direction, make a complete stop when entering the main street, and refrain from passing unless the road is clear.

The committee emphasised in implementing campaigns that increase awareness of traffic safety, reduce road accidents and consolidate the concept of traffic safety on roads according to the vision zero strategy that it recently launched, which aims at reducing the number of road accident deaths down to zero.
