Qatari construction workers to be given cooling hard hats

As Qatar prepares for the football world cup in 2022, it has been reported migrant workers are being given cooling hard hats as a way to lower the body temperature of workers

The Qatari heat has been a topic of great discussion as they are set to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, with the playing conditions being subject to a great amount of scrutiny. However, many have overlooked the health and safety of the workers who are constructing the stadiums in preparation for one of the worlds largest sporting events.

The hard hat in question has been designed by scientists and designers at Qatar University. It runs on solar power and works with a small fan, which is located on the top of the hard hat, blows air over a cold pack. The cooled air is then subsequently blown over the worker's face, which Saud Ghani, a professor of engineering at Qatar University, says can lowers the wearer's skin temperature by up to 10 degrees.

Tournament organisers have said that that the measure of cooling hard hats also has the potential to reduce the risk of heat stroke.

According to an official from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy of Qatar, the hardhats can provide cooling for up to four hours and will be introduced in the summer of 2017.
