Champions of safety training and skills development within the oil and gas sector will be recognised at this year’s OPITO Global Awards on 7 November, during the organisation’s annual safety and competency conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Nominations are being welcomed by OPITO across four categories in line with the 2018 conference theme, ‘Skilled for Safety’. The awards will honour individuals and companies committed to ensuring their workforce remains safe and competent to the globally recognised OPITO standards.
The Leadership Award and the Emerging Leader Award will see people being celebrated for inspiring others as well as developing programmes to improve safety and competency within their workplace.
Businesses able to demonstrate their commitment to personnel safety through training, people development and the use of OPITO standards can be entered into the Skilled for Safety Champion or Digital Champion categories.
Winners will be announced at OPITO Global – the Safety & Competence Conference, which is being held at the InterContinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and focuses entirely on safety and competency in the oil and gas industry. The event is expected to attract more than 400 delegates and 20 exhibitors.
OPITO CEO, John McDonald, said, “Each year we look forward to seeing how the workforce and companies have approached their commitments to training personnel to the OPITO standards and hearing their stories of cultural change or increased safety targets being met, or often exceeded.
“The annual OPITO Global Awards at our flagship international conference will provide an ideal platform to shine a light on the companies and individuals who best demonstrate these achievements, and crucially provide a chance for further discussion on how together, the energy industry can make safety practices consistently excellent wherever they are around the world.”
The categories are now open and information regarding the entry criteria can be found at the OPITO website at www.opito.com. The deadline for submitting entries is Friday 7 September 2018.
With a continued focus on energy industry safety, the OPITO Global event will see an additional technical forum available on 8th November as an optional subsequent day session. It is expected that around 150 delegates from OPITO’s global network of approved training companies, as well as industry practitioners, will attend the technical forum to delve deeper into the details of delivering the high quality of standards that OPITO sets for the sector around the world.
