SPA for SIRA highlights Expo 2020 security at first general assembly

The Security Professionals Association (SPA) for the Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA) highlighted the role of safety and security in major events like the World Expo in Dubai to the more than 400 members who convened for its first General Assembly

With less than a year to complete, an anticipated 25mn visitors from 192 participating countries will descend to the country across a period of six months and will put Dubai and the UAE into the limelight as it hosts the first World Fair to ever be ever held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.

Thus, the delivery of a safe and secure World Expo is of utmost importance and this can be achieved by implementing a series of programmes, workshops and training sessions to the more than 50,000 security professionals in the UAE.

Khalid Al Hammadi, chairman of SPA for SIRA, said, “With upcoming major events such as the Expo 2020, it is crucial for the security workforce to undertake stimulating and pro-active programmes to enhance their skills, improve their abilities, exceed their level of creativity and strengthen their commitment to protect the people and places they are responsible for.”

At the General Assembly, the initial programme of events for the next few months was rolled out, including the announcement of two workshops dedicated to security professionals and public, as well as a focused training session that would take place between March and April 2020. The full calendar would be made available in the coming weeks.

Adil Abdel-Hadi, second deputy chairman of SPA for SIRA, will conduct the first training session in April, which will include large elements of awareness sessions security. “The committee members have spent a great deal of time and effort developing a programme that is aimed at enhancing the skills and expertise of all our members, as well as supporting their knowledge and professional development,” noted Abdel-Hadi.

“We will collaborate with top international security professionals and experts to equip our members with the necessary tools. Personally, I will endeavour to provide security consultancy, and training and awareness programmes in security and safety, to ensure our members are able to do their jobs to the best of their ability as well as progress within their chosen career,” said Abdel-Hadi.
