Musanada gets production boost up by 30 per cent using GPS

Security

Musanada, the Abu Dhabi General Services Company, has started functioning a new machine guidance based engineering system using geographical positioning system (GPS) for grading works, which will improve the occupational safety at construction sites and enhance quality of work in the infrastructure sector

The new system will allow the company to be consistent with the work-related developments, minimise the occurrence of occupational incidents and increasing safety by maintaining life and property.

Unlike the traditional techniques that mainly depended on the skills and self-experience of the machine operator, the new system has deployed GPS control that help to complete and deliver projects within defined schedule.

This has helped increase productivity by 30 per cent, according to Suwaidan Rashed Al Dhaheri, the acting CEO of Musanada.

In addition, the new GPS system has helped Musanada to cut construction cost by 15 per cent by removing the need of work repetition in order to reach the required quality.

Al Dhaheri said, “The new system operates based on the installation of the machine guidance application, which allows real-time tracking of equipment and ensures that the earth level is matched to the levels and ratios predefined in the system.”

“This ensures a high-quality and highly accurate final product, which helps improve the quality of work in the infrastructure sector,” he added.

The new system has also helped achieve savings estimated at US$0.25 per square metre after taking into consideration the overall cost of supply and installation of the device.

According to Al Dhaheri, the main objective to implement the new system in grading-related works is to minimise the presence of human resources during movement of equipment inside the operational areas in construction sites. It will, therefore, reduce the risk of fatal incidents pervasive in the constructional area due to unsafe use of the machinery.
