HE Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and HE Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, have discussed the emirate’s traffic safety strategies and future projects
The talks included the need of Dubai Police in the Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3), Route 2020, the extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line to the site of Expo 2020 and improving roads network around the site of expo.
The meeting was held at the RTA’s premises on 30 May 2017.
During the meeting, both the parties reviewed the strategy that is built on four pillars of driver, road, vehicle and systems and management. The meeting also discussed projects undertaken by the RTA to support Expo along with the deadlines set for such projects, and the coordination process with Expo Office.
“Such issues are highlighted by improved traffic safety, smooth flow of traffic across the emirate and enhanced safety of public transit means in the interest of citizens and residents of Dubai. These meetings are part of channels used by the two parties to develop common viewpoints and act in a team spirit,” said Al Tayer.
Al Marri confirmed that both the RTA and Dubai Police serve the strategic objectives and goals of the Dubai Government.
“Their cooperation is a role model for others to emulate in serving the common business without interfering in the specialist jobs of each party. This sort of coordination is bound to complement and improve the services provided by the two departments to citizens and residents of the Emirate,” he added.
Discussions also touched on issues like procuring a new bus fleet, constructing bus stations, bus depot and the Traffic Control Centre at Al Barsha and upgrading Al Yalyes Street and Airport Street, with an aim to provide an integrated transport system at expo surroundings.
In addition, Dubai Police have planned to add a representative to the Higher Committee of Roads and Transport, and a team visit to RTA’s Enterprise Command and Control Centre to assess the office space required for them. The meeting also discussed to provide training to police personnel and security protection to the Enterprise Command and Control Centre and other control centres.
