Hanwha Techwin’s Wisenet7 acquired international cybersecurity certification ‘UL CAP’

Security

Global security company Hanwha Techwin has acquired the UL CAP (cybersecurity assurance programme) certification, an international cybersecurity standard, for its newly launched network video surveillance cameras equipped with Wisenet7 SoC (System on Chip)

UL CAP is a certification programme by UL, a leading safety science company with more than 127 years of history. The programme assesses network-connectable products for potential cybersecurity issues such as security vulnerabilities of system software and protection against security threats.

Hanwha Techwin obtained certification by complying with all of the UL’s comprehensive assessment criteria, such as penetration test, access control, encryption and software update.

The company had been continually working on improving its capabilities by creating an in-house cybersecurity team ‘S-CERT’ to establish standardised software development processes even before applying for the programme.

Hanwha Techwin’s proprietary Wisenet7 cameras have built-in security solutions that can keep video data secure at all stages of product design, manufacturing and actual use.

As the programme evaluates the overall cybersecurity system, certification will help to ensure compliance with global security policies such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In global markets such as the US, Europe and the Middle East, bidding for projects led by governments or organisations generally requires UL CAP certification. In the private sector, many customers also monitor the acquisition of certification when building video surveillance systems for sensitive facilities, such as laboratories and banks.

“By winning the UL CAP certification, we can now more actively promote our cybersecurity features as one of Hanwha Techwin’s strengths,” said a source at Hanwha Techwin. “We will provide the best cybersecurity features in our future products that customers can trust.”
