Six Nepalese workers were killed after they were trapped under huge heaps of sand at a construction site at the Al Mutlaa Housing City project in Kuwait
The accident happened on 12 February when a sand wall collapsed. Kuwait Fire department has completed rescue operations at the site, where three other trapped workers were freed.
Kuwait’s minister of Public Works and Housing Rana Al Fares visited the site and ordered an urgent investigation into the accident.
She underlined the need to “complete investigations swiftly in order to uncover any shortcomings and to hold the responsible official accountable in the event of negligence.” According to a Public Authority for Housing Welfare statement, she stressed the need for a detailed report to be submitted on the incident, revealing its causes, in preparation for necessary legal measures to be taken towards those proven to be responsible.
The Al-Mutlaa project is one of the largest housing projects currently being developed in Kuwait. Covering more than 100km and comprising more than 28,000 housing units along with other amenities, it is set to be completed in 2023.
