BAE Systems, a British multinational defence, security, and aerospace company, has re-purposed their 3D printing capacity to provide much-needed face shields to frontline medical workers fighting against COVID-19
It’s also using its extensive supply chain network to source tens of thousands of additional face shields. The combined efforts have resulted in 24,000 units being delivered to date, with a further 40,000 in the pipeline this week with a target of 120,000 being donated in total.
Richard Hamilton, manufacturing and support director at BAE Systems, said, “We have had an amazing response. As a result of everyone’s efforts, we’ve been able to send equipment directly to medical staff in our local communities working in GP surgeries, the ambulance service and hospices, as well as sending supplies to the UK’s NHS.”
BAE Systems is also using its technology skills to support the consortium of companies producing ventilators. Its role includes using the augmented and virtual reality technology developed for its Typhoon pilot simulation to create an instructional video which will be used to train people who will test each ventilator before it is delivered.
