A strong line-up of speakers is set to address the 2nd Annual Health, Safety & Security Forum, which takes place from 23-24 October in Dubai and is endorsed by Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi City Municipality and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence
Against the backdrop of the construction boom in the run-up to EXPO 2020, as well as recent high-rise building fires in the UAE, there has never been a more important time to focus on the promotion of an effective health and safety culture.
This timely event, organised by Health, Safety & Security Review Middle East magazine, will bring together HSE and security professionals, policy makers, government representatives, regulators and solutions providers to share knowledge and experiences on proven methodologies and best practices in the drive for better health and safety performance.
Amongst the unique and innovative features are a mock court trial, the first of its kind in the Middle East, which will offer valuable insights into the working of justice systems after a serious workplace accident; and a mock evacuation fire drill.
The stellar line-up of speakers includes Eng Raed Mohammed Al-Marzouqi, head of Occupational Health and Safety at Dubai Municipality, who will speak on heat stress management, and Dr Huda Al Salmi, head of EHS office and mapping and imagery section, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, who will give an update on Municipality regulations. A senior figure from Dubai Civil Defence will present on the UAE’s Fire & Life Safety Code, due to be unveiled in the coming weeks; while Eng. Mohamed Alkatheeri, Fire Protection branch manager, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, will address the challenges in making architecture design compliant with fire safety requirements. Rob Cooling, vice chair of IOSH UAE branch, will speak on the critical role of leadership in the promotion of effective health and safety performance, while Ibrahim Fahmy, Marine & HSE Advisor, ZADCO, will moderate a session on crowd management and security, which is coming to the fore in the run-up to EXPO 2020. Also particularly topical will be a case study on inter-agency co-operation given by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services entitled ‘2016 New Year’s Eve in Dubai’.
The Forum will also be addressed by high level speakers from Emirates National Oil Company, the UAE International Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the Ministry of Labour, amongst others.
Ibrahim Fahmy, advisory chairman for the event, commented that the Forum will play a valuable role in addressing issues of current concern. “This great annual event adds value to HSE in the Middle East, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, showcasing the latest HSE technical and management developments, and highlighting important updates in HSE science and technology,” he said.
