ADIPEC2014ADIPEC 2015 will honour path-breaking inventions and industry milestones, including the Best Oil & Gas CSR/HSE Project, among others

The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) has, in the past, highlighted the significance of workplace safety. At this year’s edition set to take place in early November, visitors can expect to witness the most creative initiatives in workplace health and safety management. Organisers have listed an award titled Best Oil & Gas CSR/HSE Project or Initiative, which will acknowledge health, safety and environment (HSE) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects or initiatives that provide a significant level of betterment and improvement at a workplace.

According to the organisers, the project or initiative must contribute to the overall improvement of the region’s energy industry. This can either be a transformation in HSE standards that has positively impacted the viability of a project and brought about an open safety culture, or the development of a CSR project or initiative that has actively sought to improve the surrounding community and environment, highlighting the resources allocated and measurable impact.

In addition, the projects and initiatives must have been implemented or be ongoing within the MENA region and there should be a focus on the process implemented.

Candidates, who have already submitted the projects, must ensure that their projects focus on the period between June 2014 and June 2015.

ADIPEC organisers also listed their judging criteria – candidates will be identified by the need and value of the project/initiative; use of creative applications, new techniques and standards; presence of breakthrough technology, contributions and values that were adopted during the implementation process of the project or initiative; establishment of objectives and targets and the practices used; impact of the project or initiative, and improvement levels created and finally, integration of the project into a company’s business core.

The organisers are also open to taking resubmissions (from the 2014 ADIPEC awards); however, candidates are required to demonstrate how the project or initiative has progressed and evolved in terms of efficiency, data or alternative applications.

In 2014, a panel discussion titled HSE — Aligning Cultures, Communication and Competence was conducted at the show. The panel included Ali Hasan Al-Failakawi, team leader HSE (South and East Kuwait) for the Kuwait Oil Company; Hatem Nuseibeh, president and chief representative of Total UAE; and Nabil Al Alawi, CEO of AlMansoori Specialized Engineering. Speakers from oil majors such as Total, Eni, Kuwait Oil Company and ADMA-OPCO were present, and shed light on the health and safety practices in the Middle East oil and gas industry.
